Tennis Academy

We are living in a unique moment in the history of tennis, in which the three most successful players in history, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, have coincided in space-time. This era has not only provided many entertaining hours for all sports lovers but has also given tennis an enormous boost and increased its global significance. We are at a turning point in the world of tennis, an opportunity to create an academy that will last, that is linked to the values of the sport and that represents a philosophy and a way of understanding life.

The proposed academy model aims to create a recognizable image among tennis players, to transmit values that create a sense of belonging and identity and, despite the fact that it is an individual sport, to recognize a club philosophy in each of its athletes. The services currently offered by traditional academies focus on satisfying training and sporting needs. The new proposal aims to broaden the range of services offered, provide greater diversity to create synergies between the different users and enrich the experience lived at the center.

The proposal is formalized by various organically shaped volumes that are grouped around a central space, then spread out and merge with the surrounding nature.

In this way, the project is not a dead space, as it defines the main lines on which it will grow in the future.

Around tennis, the academy builds a way of understanding the world, overcoming problems, and enjoying success.

1. Training

Promoting the comprehensive development of student-athletes must start with a commitment to their personal growth.

The development of aspects such as emotional, social, moral and ethical intelligence must go hand in hand throughout the entire process of academic and professional growth of athletes.

Thus, school education should be the academic extension of a community-based on-campus residence. The life experiences that occur here complement the academic dimension and offer unique personal growth for students/residents.

2. Health and well being

Physical and mental preparation plays a fundamental role in the performance of a high-level athlete. The high demands to which they are subjected everyday force us to take care of even the smallest detail to guarantee that their performance is the best possible. Nutrition, rest, emotional balance, or injury prevention are important facets that have to be worked on carefully. And putting top-level facilities and professionals at the service of students is the only way to achieve this.

3. Technology and innovation

China has developed spectacular growth in recent decades and concentrates on frenetic economic activity, this breeding ground provides a unique opportunity to turn the Academy into a global reference point, where the latest technological advances are founded with a top-level sports entity. For this reason, it is proposed to create a “Technological Hub” that brings together, connects, and promotes start-ups dedicated to innovation around sports and health.

4. Teaching and professional development

While it is true that reaching the tennis elite is one of the objectives of young promises; The success of the Academy's philosophy lies in instilling the importance of enjoying the path travelled, which guarantees the training of excellent professionals.

Therefore, it seems natural that the next step towards expanding the Academy's offering is to accompany athletes in their integration into the world of work in different professions related to sports, Health Sciences, Physical Activity Sciences and Sports or those jobs related to education.

5. Leisure and tourism

We live in a society of leisure. The development of the world market results in the globalization of cultures and ways of life; and of course, leisure.

In this context, sport becomes a driving force for attracting tourists, activities, and events. The practice of sport moves an increasing number of tourists in search of new experiences.

The design of an infrastructure that brings together economic activities from the leisure and tourism sectors, under a single and unitary business model around elite sport, is considered an unexplored and long-term path.

6. Sustainability

The Academy project, due to the values it represents, must be a reference in its architectural design. Around 50% of CO2 emissions in the world are related to the construction sector.

Becoming aware of this, betting on buildings with a low ecological footprint is an unavoidable responsibility. For this reason, concepts such as energy efficiency, the use of materials with low environmental impact or the generation of clean energy make up the main strategy of the center’s architecture.

7. Showbusiness

Achieving an image that goes beyond an athlete, reaching a school image that associates values and a feeling of belonging is one of the keys to transcending history.

In this way, the project seeks to establish and amplify its projection in the world. The creation of a community is proposed, which develops both physically and virtually, offering a space for relationships and dialogue for all fans. A museum is also incorporated into the project; in addition to a large capacity stadium that can host a large professional tournament.

Growth flexibility

We propose a design that is easy to expand and has the possibility of growth. A radial scheme as the main strategy, which allows not only to create an access nucleus where all relationships are generated but is also easily expandable according to the needs that arise over time.
